This is an exciting time of year for me. In the last four weeks we have received over 300 varieties of maple trees and over 200 varieties of conifers. Among the reasons I love conifers are the variety of colors and textures that add color and interest to a garden year round. Here is a sample of plants received from just one supplier.
The price on these small plants ranges from $25 to $60. While some are merely young versions of large trees, most are dwarfs and miniatures that can serve as accents or foundations for potted arrangements, stand-alone displays or rockery plants.
I have been asked to designate which are my favorites. While the truth is that they are all my favorites at one time or another, I decided to to pick my top ten. However, I got down to eleven and could not find one to remove from the list. My criteria were:
Attractive and well-formed when small.
The color and/or form make it distinctive.
It is not likely to be found in many other nurseries.
We purchased at least 5 for sale (I have some super favorites that are onesies).
You will find these plants in the nursery with a green "Bill's Pick" sticker. We are doing this for both conifers and Japanese maples. I hope you will come into the nursery to see what I have "picked".
