Here's our Perennial Buyer, Jane MacKinnon (known affectionately at the nursery as J Mac) with a beautiful bowl of 5-Spice Peach and Raspberry Salad, from the popular cookbook, Ottolenghi Simple.
Every ingredient in this salad (except the dressing) can be harvested in your own back yard from plants we have available here at the nursery.
Here is the recipe:
For the dressing, mix together:
1-1/2 tbsp. cider vinegar
1 tsp. maple syrup
1/4 tsp. Chinese 5-spice powder
1 tbsp. olive oil
1 shallot, thinly sliced (1/4 cup)
1/4 tsp. salt
For the salad, combine:
3-1/2 oz raspberries
3 firm peaches, not too ripe, cut into 1/4 inch wedges
2 cups watercress
2 cups radicchio (J Mac used the three different kinds we sell), cut into 3/4 inch slices.
Add dressing, toss and serve.
This bright, summery salad would be perfect as a side at a barbeque, with the tart flavors balancing the richness of grilled meat. We loved it here at the nursery and think you will too. Bon appetit!
