Conifers
Pusch Norway Spruce (Picea abies 'Pusch')
Conifers are an excellent way to add structure, distinctive texture, and year-round interest to your landscape, especially during the winter months. This diverse group of plants ranges from towering forest giants to compact miniatures, making them suitable for gardens of any size.
Conifers offer an exciting palette of colors, from deep greens to vibrant yellows, blues, and even shades of red. With a wide variety of growth rates, forms, and textures, they can transform your landscape into a dynamic and visually striking display.
Sunlight: Most conifers thrive in full sun, though some species can tolerate partial shade. Always check the specific light requirements of your variety to ensure healthy growth and prevent stress from too much direct sunlight.
Watering: Water when the top couple of inches of soil feel dry. Consistently well-draining soil is essential to prevent root problems.
Soil: Conifers prefer well-drained soil with a slightly acidic pH (approximately 5.5–7.0). Sandy or loamy soils enriched with compost are ideal.
Mulching: Apply mulch around your conifers to retain moisture and regulate soil temperature. Keep mulch in a donut shape, leaving space around the base of the trunk to prevent rot.
