March
Soil science and indoor seed planting!
This month, Growing Gardeners Club members are exploring soil science and learning how to plant seeds indoors! Join us for drop-in seed planting on March 14 & 15 from 1–2:30 PM.
When you have picked out a spot at home for a garden, you’ll want to be sure your soil has the nutrients it needs to support your plants. Adding compost is a good way to do that. You might also want to test your soil to check nutrient levels. We have kits in the Garden Center. The results will be helpful when we learn about fertilizer in the coming weeks.
In March, the ground is too cold for some seeds to be planted, so we start them indoors and transplant them outside when the soil is warmer.
The winners are…
Last month, we asked you to vote on what to plant in our new demonstration garden. Thank you for voting! Here are the results:
Vines - cherry tomatoes and cucumbers
Leafy greens - lettuce and spinach
Fruit - ground cherries and strawberries
Root crops - carrots and potatoes
Herbs - mint and rosemary
