We are thrilled to announce we're featuring Marcia Bruno's vintage artwork during the West Seattle Art Walk! Long before she was our own nursery owner, Marcia spent fifteen years building a name for herself in the jewelry world, and we're delighted to bring a piece of that story to the West Seattle Nursery. Join us from 5-8PM on August 13th to view her striking kinetic jewelry, crafted from acrylic, silver, and steel guitar strings, and to celebrate this special crossover between two of her lifelong passions.

Marcia Bruno Bio

Marcia Bruno earned her BFA in metals from the Tyler School of Art and later completed her MFA at the University of Washington. Over her fifteen-year jewelry career, she built a reputation for kinetic work in acrylic, silver, and steel guitar strings. Vintage pieces from that era, now twenty to thirty years old, are featured in this Art Walk display.

Bruno was an active leader in the Pacific Northwest metals community, serving as past president of the Seattle Metals Guild and acting as lead organizer of the 1998 conference of the Society of North American Goldsmiths (SNAG). Her work has appeared in several jewelry books and magazines, and has been featured in the collections of the Renwick Gallery (Smithsonian American Art Museum), the Tacoma Art Museum, the Montreal Museum of Art, the Boston Museum of Modern Art, and the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. She also shared her expertise as an instructor at the Pratt Fine Arts Center, the University of Washington, Highline Community College, and Bellevue Community College.

Bruno's path eventually led somewhere unexpected: a job as the display person at West Seattle Nursery, where her interests slowly grew from metal and plastic to plants. She now owns the nursery, and her latest creative pursuit is upcycling and garment sewing.
