Summer Food Drive for Kids at West Seattle Nursery

July 15, 2026

Many of our young neighbors rely on school lunches for nutrition. But what happens in summer, when school is closed? We wanted to find a way to help.

We reached out to our friends at the West Seattle Food Bank for suggestions. They told us that many kids make their own meals during the summer while their caretakers are at work, and they sent us a list of items for "Kids Can Make It" meals. Everything on the list is easy to prepare and shelf-stable, so no refrigeration is needed. Please help us collect food for our neighborhood kids.

How It Works

Bring your donations to the Garden Center and drop them in the bin across from the registers. Each time the bin fills up, the West Seattle Food Bank will pick up the donations and weigh them, then let us know how many pounds came in. We'll track our progress with a fundraising "thermometer" set up next to the bin.

Our ‘Food Drive for Kids’ runs now through September 30. Our goal is 1,200 lbs. of food. Thank you for your help!
